Training of Trainers Workshop For Civil Society on Lobbying and Campaigning for the ATT

Activity description

Organized by the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA), the purpose of the meetings were to increase the capacity of civil society organisations in West Africa to lobby and campaign for ATT signature and ratification in their States; to discuss the draft CSO lobby and campaign manual content and lessons learnt from the implementation of the ECOWAS convention on SALW; to encourage media work in support of the ATT ratification process; and, to increase awareness in the region of the ATT signing and ratification process. The four meetings were held in Dakar, Senegal on 27-28 January 2014, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire on 12-13 February 2014, in Freetown, Sierra Leone on 23-26 February 2014 by the Council of Churches, and in Lomé, Togo on 11-14 March 2014. WAANSA has also conducted high level country visits in which they lobby for the ratification of the ATT, in partnership with National Commissions, various Ministries, etc.

Project description

The WAANSA project is organizing a series of seminars funded by the UK to build the capacity of West African civil society organizations in advocating for the signature and ratification of the ATT by Member States in the subregion.
