Activity description

Two capacity building workshops were jointly organized by the UN Regional Centre on Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC), the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA), the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), and the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). The workshops consisted of training on the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATG). Participants in the workshop from 26 to 28 May included senior officers responsible for the planning, implementation and oversight of ammunition and explosives storage including the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and other responsible bodies. The second workshop took place on 29 and 30 May and was specifically aimed at trainers of the AFL. The workshops served to familiarize participants with the basic IATG requirements for ammunition management, and the specific IATG requirements for the safe, effective and efficient storage and handling of ammunition and explosives. The workshops were held in Monrovia.
