Validation Workshop for Manual of Procedures on SALW Stockpiling in Côte d'Ivoire
The UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) and the National Commission for the Fight Against the Proliferation and Illicit Traffic of SALW (NatCom) in Cote d’Ivoire organized a 1-day workshop with national stakeholder in order to validate the manual of procedures produced by UNREC. The manual follows international best practice standards as ascribed in the ISACS and IATG.
At the request of the National Commission (NatCom) on Small Arms in Cote d’Ivoire, UNREC initiated a project entitled 'Strengthening SALW Control in Côte d'Ivoire'. The project aims to: 1) evaluate and rehabilitate four police security stations; 2) equip three rehabilitated sites for stockpile management; 3) complete an examination of the number of arms held by private security companies in the country; 4) train defense and security forces operating along the border; and, 5) develop a guide on best practice standards in stockpile management for the NatCom.
