CISTEC - The 20th Asian Export Control Seminar 2013
As part of the CISTEC Asian Export Control Seminar project, the 20th Asian Export Control Seminar addressed a wide variety of export control topics. Various experts presented on the functioning and development of the multilateral export control regimes, how export controls are tackled at the national level and what are the main challenges to implement these provisions. Representatives from a number of Asian states presented on their experiences with the development of national legislation, collaboration with industry and inter-agency cooperation and coordination. Further discussions were dedicated to finding ways to strengthen non-proliferation in Asia.
The Asian Export Control Seminar was launched in 1993 for officials in charge of export control in Asia and was aimed at stepping up Asian and international efforts on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). The seminars are focused on raising common awareness of the importance of non-proliferation and export controls across Asia and consolidating export control capabilities in the region. Since then, the Asian Export Control Seminar has been an annual event organized by the Center for Information on Security Trade Control (CISTEC), a Japanese non-profit, non-governmental organization, bringing together international experts to discuss current issues in export control especially relevant to Asian states and the region more generally.
